tThe Awesome Microbes Carnival

A Project Based Learning (POBL) called THE AWESOME MICROBES CARNIVAL was developed for Microbiology undegraduates of Universiti Putra Malaysia. The aim of the project was to empower students learning and at the same time create awareness in science education to the public. In this program, visitors were able to observe microbes using microscopes, posters of microbes images and descriptions were exhibited. Visitors used devices like tablets, smartphones and ipads to scan images that will trigger the videos and animation on the posters using Augmented Reality. At the same time, they were able to hold a 3D model of microbes produced by 3D printers that were also demonstrated during the event. Visitors were exposed to the good, the bad and the ugly of microorganisms through the posters exhibitions, interactive games, 3D models, food stalls and interviews with students. The event was opened to the public on the 19- 20th November 2015. Schools, community colleges and other higher education institutions participated

Have you ever seen a microbe?

Have you ever seen a bacterium,  fungus or virus?  These are called microorganisms.  They can't be seen with naked eyes. We have to use  a microsocope to observe a microbe.

Have you ever held a microbe?

After you observe the microbes under the microscope, you are able to hold the microbes with our 3D printed models of these microorganisms. They were created by the first semester Microbiology students.
